As noted throughout this report, DWT’s commitment to serving communities in need, and the tireless dedication of many of our lawyers and staff, received extraordinary recognition at both the national and local level throughout the course of 2023.
American Bar Association Business Law Section National Public Service Award
DWT’s director of pro bono and social impact, Rachel R. Brown, was honored as the sole recipient of this award, which recognized her “outstanding work helping some of the largest in-house legal departments in the U.S. build out their internal pro bono programs.”
American Bar Association Pro Bono Publico Award
DWT was the only law firm in the country recognized with this year’s Pro Bono Publico award, the highest honor bestowed by the ABA Standing Committee on Pro Bono and Public Service. The committee lauded DWT “for its innovative approach to pro bono practice and its extensive work reimagining pro bono partnerships with in-house legal departments.”

Our In-House Gateway to Good earned first place in the Innovations in Pro Bono category at these national awards, which celebrate those who are “leading the legal profession into the future through technology and innovation.”

DWT was honored for our longtime partnership with Legal Services for Children, a San Francisco organization that serves in-need children and youth.
Washington State Bar Association Chief Justice Mary E. Fairhurst Award of Merit
Seattle associate Caesar Kalinowski IV was awarded the Washington State Bar Association’s (WSBA) highest honor, recognizing excellence in his practice as well as his extensive record of public service. Kalinowski “has taken on complex and demanding pro bono cases, with a focus on upholding the rights of incarcerated people and other marginalized groups,” said the WSBA award committee. “He has also been quite active in his community, including chairing the Washington State Veterans Bar Association and helping to launch DWT’s pre-law diversity fellowship program.”

Bloomberg Law Pro Bono Innovators
Our partnership with Microsoft launching and expanding the ProJourn program was honored in this second annual editorial feature, which recognizes a small number of law firms, companies, and nonprofits “that embody innovation and dedication in their pro bono work for the underserved.” The editors also recognized our firm’s other high-impact work on behalf of the news media.
Chambers USA Diversity & Inclusion Awards
For the second straight year, DWT was recognized by Chambers for our national pro bono leadership. We were named a finalist in the category of Pro Bono: Outstanding Firm.
Financial Times Innovative Law Firms: North America
In this highly competitive awards program, the FT awarded DWT a ranking of Highly Commended (or first runner-up) in the category of Access to Justice and Civil Rights, recognizing the innovation and impact of the ProJourn initiative.
International Legal Technology Association Distinguished Peer Awards
This premier awards program for technologists in the legal industry honored DWT’s In-House Gateway to Good as Transformative Project of the Year for delivering “exceptional business value, innovation, and transformational impact.”
PorchLight Steve Roberts Partnership Award
In recognition of our yearslong efforts to help this organization build a permanent shelter for unhoused men in Bellevue, Wash., PorchLight awarded DWT this inaugural award, named for a former PorchLight executive director and longtime benefactor.
