Challenging a Georgia Law That Undermines the Right to Vote
DWT has devoted more than 5,350 pro bono hours to litigation seeking to overturn a 2021 anti-voter law passed in Georgia. So far, the team has secured rulings that block two provisions of the bill: a prohibition on providing food and water to voters waiting in Georgia’s longest lines and a superfluous requirement that voters include their birthdate on absentee ballot envelopes.
Adam Sieff is DWT’s lead counsel on the matter, which is being litigated on behalf of several community organizations, in partnership with the Southern Poverty Law Center, American Civil Liberties Union, and National Association for the Advancement of Colored People Legal Defense Fund.

The Law Firm Antiracism Alliance (LFAA) is a partnership of more than 300 firms working to help identify and dismantle systemic and structural racism in the law. DWT volunteers partnered with the LFAA’s Voting Rights Working Group to analyze federal voting right cases for the University of Michigan’s Civil Rights Litigation Clearinghouse database. The group has analyzed a dozen cases so far. The database makes these cases easier to find and use, and serves as a no-cost resource for civil rights attorneys in shaping their litigation strategies and providing the best representation to their clients.
