Supporting Small Businesses

Entrepreneurship is one of the most effective ways to address generational wealth gaps and provide a critical economic path for new immigrants to our country. But success can require resources and connections that are often out of reach. Every year, we work to help the small businesses that are so critical to our communities.

In partnership with Start Small Think Big, a nonprofit dedicated to connecting entrepreneurs and small businesses with resources and community, volunteers from Microsoft and DWT advised clients on terms of use and privacy policies.

DWT partnered with One Step Closer, a trade group for the natural products industry, to host a pro bono legal clinic with Portland’s Latino-led Hacienda Community Development Corporation. Volunteers participated in a half-day clinic where they provided brief consultations on a variety of legal issues, including business formation, tax implications, employment, branding, licensing, and how immigration status may affect all of these areas. Volunteers also created one-pagers in English and Spanish on common legal issues regarding Oregon pay equity laws, trademark basics, and several other industry-relevant questions.
